New York (Sep. 2001- May 2003)
Ramdom pictures from my NY/SIPA life.
Seattle (Jun. 2002)
Michi and I went on a short trip to Seattle during the summer vacation. Many small accidents happened during this trip; I strained my ankle, lost my wallet, Michi got a speed ticket, left his computer at the airport, etc... (all turned ok in the end except for Michi's ticket) However, we love Seattle and the nature surrounding the city, and had a very very good time there.
Hyogo & Tokyo, Japan (Dec. 2002- Jan. 2003)
Michi started to live in Tokyo from Oct. 2002, so I went back to Japan during the winter break. I took him to my hometown Takarazuka and spent Japanese New Year together with my family. My father took us to Himeji and Ako.
Boston (March 2003)
Since both of my roommates were out of the country during the spring break, I spontaneously visited my friend Non-chan in Boston.
Taiwan (Sep. 2003-)
Ramdom pictures from my new life in Taipei.
Tainan & Kaohsiong(Gaoxiong) (Dec. 2003)
I made a spontaneous trip to Tainan and Gaoxiong by myself during the Chtistmas break. Random pictures from the trip. Sorry some pics are very fuzzy.
Hualian & Tailuge(Taroko) (June 2004)
Michi and I finally had a chance to go to the Taroko National Park, where you can emerse yourself in the magnificent wild nature of Taiwan.
Qing-dao & Beijing, China (July 2004)
My first encounter with Mainland China...
Siem Reap & Phnom Penh, Cambodia (Dec. 2004)
Trip with my friend Yukiko to visit the ancient Angkor temples and the killing field.
Lantern Festival at Ping-xi, Taiwan (Mar. 2005)
We went to see the lantern festival while my cousin Rena visited me in Taipei.
Vientiane, Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang, Laos (July 2005)
I visited Nami (my roommate in NY), who was then working at UNFPA in Laos. Our Korean friend from SIPA, Minnie, was also visiting her. Nami took us around in Vientiane and drove to Vang Vieng, and arranged a trip to Luang Prabang for us to see the UNESCO World Heritage.
Seoul, South Korea (Summer 2006)
Michi and I stayed in Seoul to attend the Korean language program at Seoul National University. I also conducted some interviews for my research on the conscription policy in South Korea. During our stay, we visited a number of museums in and outside Seoul. It turned out to be a very busy summer for me.
Nagasaki, Kyushu, Japan (August 2006)
My parents took me to Nagasaki and showed me around. My father flies there pretty often since he is a chief producer of Saruku Expo. Nagasaki is a small and hilly port town now but experienced significant historical events as the only door to the rest of the world during the Edo era. We visited Sotome (a village of hidden Christians), too. If you have any knowledge or interest in Japan's modern history, it is a fascinating place to walk around. My camera was broken and I could not take many pictures, but I put some of what I took here.
